Hi there,
My name is Kostas Dounas, I am Marine biologist and I live in Crete, Greece. My daughter from my first marriage (17,6 years old) is about ready to participate in an student exchange program and spend the next 10 months in Sendai, Japan. Her school will be TOKIWAGI GAKUEN HIGH SCHOOL. My ex-wife lives in France, Paris and she has no serious objections for this trip. But myself, as a father, I have many fears and negative feelings, especially on my daughter’s health due to radiation exposure. Please can you advise me in order to take the proper decision.
Thanking you in advance
Kostas Dounas
Dear Costas.
It is difficult to give advices to anybody when the health of child is at steak.
I know Tokiwagi is wonderful place to study. Ive been there many times.
Age 17 should be ok. Sendai seems to have acceptible gama radiation. 1.3 milisievert/year. We don’t know how is the ground contamination. Some people are acting some are passive. Mostly parents are concerned about crises.
Food? I am skipping fresh japanese products if I can. No milk products at all. My family is coming soon. I have two small daughters. Thy evacuated for 4 months from home. We will protect them and make decision for healthy life.
Every family must do own decision. I believe that we have to stay sharp and educate our selfs for sake of our kids.
I wish you luck.
Henri
